Negligent driver kills one in hit-and-run accident

A negligent driver can turn a normal night into a nightmare. Resulting severe injuries can leave victims with a lifetime of hardship. In the worst cases, a fatal accident occurs. Perhaps the most deadly type of car accident is the one involving a pedestrian. These unsuspecting individuals are vulnerable when they cross and walk along streets. A recent incident in Nashville shows how tragic these accidents can be, and Knoxville residents should be aware that they can happen anywhere at any time.

In Nashville, a woman was found dead in the middle of the street in the early morning hours. Police say initial evidence suggests the woman was struck by a vehicle that did not stop. Residents in the area claim that speeding has been a problem on the road and may have contributed to the accident. The investigation is ongoing.

The loss of a loved one caused by the negligence of another is devastating to families. These families can face years of emotional recovery, and those family members who relied on the deceased financially may be left with an unsustainable financial burden. Fortunately, legal action can help these family members with their recovery.

To succeed on a wrongful death claim, a surviving family member must prove the driver responsible for the accident was negligent and that negligence played a part in the victim's death. In the case of a hit-and-run, there is a high probability these elements have been satisfied.

One successful on a wrongful death suit, a surviving family member can obtain compensation. These awards can be used to cover medical expenses, pain and suffering felt by the deceased before passing, funeral expenses, and lost wages. Then, the victim's family can focus on grieving the loss of their loved one and moving on with life.

Hit-and-run accidents often end in tragedy. While the criminal justice system can help track down and punish those responsible for causing these accidents, only civil action can get the deceased's family the compensation they need and deserve.
