Knoxville hit-and-run kills father of four

A Knoxville man was recently killed when he was struck by a car while he was crossing the intersection. The driver fled the scene, but was later found, arrested, and charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident. The victim, a 65-year old immigrant from the Congo, leaves four children behind, aged 9 to 20. The deceased was the children's only remaining parent and he was the primary caregiver for his handicapped daughter. Thus, the negligent driver who killed this man has drastically affected this family forever.

A family that must face the loss of a loved one because of the negligence of another may find themselves struggling to heal their emotional pain. Additionally, especially in the recent hit-and-run case, the loss may leave the family in a difficult financial situation. In order to right these wrongs, it may be in the family's best interest to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the negligent driver who left them devastated.

When a wrongful death lawsuit stems from a car accident, the victim's family must prove the other driver's negligence caused the deceased's death. This requires gathering facts related to the investigation and establishing the negligence. An experienced attorney will ensure a thorough investigation is conducted and the necessary facts are collected to support a plaintiff's claim.

If a surviving family succeeds on a wrongful death claim, then compensation may be obtained to help alleviate the emotional and financial pain felt by the family. The money can then be used to pay off the deceased's medical expenses, ease pain and suffering, and compensate for lost wages. Then, hopefully, the family can focus on moving past the fatal accident, remembering their loved one, and continuing with their life in a way that leaves them with financial stability and a sense of justice.
