Hit-and-run driver strikes, injures two in Knoxville

Knoxville, like any city, should be safe for pedestrians. Yet, the safety of those on foot lies in the hands of Knoxville's motorists. When these drivers obey traffic laws and are attentive behind the wheel, then walking is relatively safe. But if a motorist is reckless, distracted or drunk behind the wheel, then a serious, perhaps even deadly, accident may occur.

One of these crashes happened recently in West Knoxville. There, two pedestrians who were crossing the road were hit by a vehicle. Though the victims were fortunate enough to survive the wreck, they were still taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the errant vehicle never stopped, and police continue to search for him or her.

An individual who is injured in a car wreck like this may face excruciating pain and suffering. Physically, a victim may suffer broken bones, a head or neck injury, or a permanent disability. Emotionally, the victim may become depressed because of his physical condition and he may be afraid to walk along the road again. The victim may also be harmed financially, too. If physically impaired, the victim may be unable to work at a time when income is desperately needed to pay for necessary medical care.

In an attempt to recover damages, a car accident victim may file a lawsuit against the driver who struck him or her. A Knoxville attorney can be pivotal in this process by uncovering evidence and providing sound legal argument. If negligence and causation are proven, then compensation may be obtained to help pay for lost wages, medical expenses, and pain and suffering.

An attorney may also be able to reach a settlement with a distracted or negligent driver before trial. If this occurs, the victim may obtain compensation swiftly, avoid the trail process, and still hold the distracted driver accountable. All these legal options can be thoroughly discussed with a competent accident attorney.
