Drowsy driving can cause catastrophic car wreck

It has happened to many of us. We climb behind the wheel early in the morning or late at night, or we drive for far too long, and the dark blanket of sleep starts to overcome us. Though many may think this is a normal occurrence that individuals can push through, the fact is far different. Experts say that drowsy driving is just as dangerous as drunk driving, and falling asleep behind the wheel can be just as deadly.

The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration says more than 100,000 accidents result from an individual driving while tired. It is not clear how many of these accidents are fatal and how many result in injuries, but it is likely that several fall into each category. Those individuals who are harmed in these accidents, and families who lose a loved one to such a crash, may have a difficult road ahead of them.

Being injured in a car wreck is no minor thing. Agonizing pain can be long-lasting, and missing family functions can cause emotional pain of its own. Also, victims often have to miss work, resulting in lost wages, and incur considerable medical expenses. These damages can take a toll, leaving a victim overwhelmed.

By filing a lawsuit against a negligent driver, though, car accident victims may be able to recover compensation for their losses. A Knoxville attorney may be invaluable during this process, as he or she can often help gather supporting evidence, interview witnesses, and use the law to buttress the victim's claim. If a jury is convinced that the other driver's negligence caused the victim's injuries, then compensation may be awarded for the victim's damages, allowing him or her to get the medical care he or she needs while escaping unwarranted debt.
