How can semi-truck rollovers be prevented?

Tennesseans who drive on a regular basis are likely in close proximity to semi-trucks at any given time. Though an important part of our economy, these massive vehicles can prove dangerous when improperly driven. This can be especially true when a truck rollover occurs. In these instances, multiple vehicles can become involved, putting multiple individuals at risk of harm.

There are actions truckers can take to avoid rollover accidents, and failing to abide by them could give rise to litigation. Truckers should avoid operating their vehicles in a way that causes sudden movement, as this could cause a rollover. Also, those who drive trucks should be sure to control their speed. Efforts to quickly stop could lead to jackknifing and rollover. Therefore, truckers should give themselves cushions between their truck and the vehicles in front of them.

Another way to avoid truck rollovers is for truckers to control their loads while turning. Some types of cargo may increase the risk of rollover, and truckers should enter and exit turns accordingly. This means that a trucker needs to be knowledgeable about his or her cargo and how to handle it properly while driving. Lastly, trucker should be rested, alert and aware behind the wheel, which will quicken their response time, clear their judgment and allow them to better identify risks.

Though we all hope that truckers will abide by these rules to ensure the safety of all motorists, they will continue to be broken and truck accidents will continue to occur. When an individual is hurt in one of these wrecks, he or she may want to assess whether it was caused by the trucker's negligence. If it was, then a personal injury lawsuit may be a proper way to try to recover compensation.
