Sleepy driver injures several in Tennessee accident

Most, if not all, Tennesseans know that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is dangerous, not only for that motorist, but for other motorists as well. Yet, many may not recognize that drowsy driving can be just as dangerous, as has been discussed on this blog before. One recent accident in Tennessee shows just how devastating driving-while-tired can be.

In this incident, a pickup truck was seen weaving in and out of traffic before striking a car facing the opposite direction that was waiting to turn. The truck flipped onto its top, and another vehicle was hit. As a result of the wreck, four people were taken to the hospital. Two of those individuals were considered to be in critical condition. Police report that the errant driver of the pickup truck admitted to falling asleep behind the wheel prior to the accident.

Those who were harmed in this crash may have to find a way to cope with unexpected and undeserved damages, including pain and suffering, medical expenses and lost wages. These losses can leave a victim and his or her family in financial trouble and unable to acquire needed medical care. However, individuals in situations like this should not let a negligent driver take so much from them. Instead, they should carefully consider their legal options, which may include pursuing a personal injury lawsuit in hopes of recovering compensation for their damages.

Proving that a driver was fatigued behind the wheel is likely to be more challenging than proving intoxication. However, a victim may be able to show that the driver's actions were negligent, thereby causing the car accident and the resulting injuries. Proving this is a matter that may require the assistance of a legal professional.
