Townsend driver arrested for hitting two bicycle riders

Accidents are dangerous enough when they involve two or more motor vehicles, but accidents involving pedestrians and bicycle riders can be even more devastating. A car's weight and speed compared to that of an individual on a bike is significant. When a negligent driver causes a car accident involving a biker, serious injuries are likely to occur.

An incident involving two bicyclists and a driver occurred a year ago in Townsend. According to reports, the driver hit two bicycle riders and then fled the scene. The bike riders were injured. The investigation only recently ended and the driver was apprehended.

When a negligent driver causes injuries to others, victims may be entitled to compensation. These awards can help victims cover medical expenses, pain and suffering and lost wages.

Since bicycle riders are not protected by the safety features contained in cars, such as seat belts and air bags, an accident may force a victim to undergo surgery and rehabilitation. These services are expensive. A lawsuit will ensure that a victim receives the best care possible to help them achieve a normal life after an accident.

While arrests in hit and run cases, like the one in Townsend, can provide victims with some sense of justice, a criminal conviction cannot provide victims with much needed compensation. This is another reason why a civil suit may be necessary. Like a criminal conviction, a successful civil lawsuit may also deter other drivers from being reckless or negligent behind the wheel.

A reckless driver can ruin a life in the blink of an eye. Tennessee residents deserve to travel without fear of being harmed.
