Riding a motorcycle can be fun and relaxing. Yet, it does not take much for that joy ride to turn into a dangerous, deadly motorcycle accident. A negligent, speeding driver, or a failure to yield, can leave a motorcyclist with serious injuries including broken bones or a life-altering head injury. One of these accident occurred recently in Knoxville and shows the vulnerabilities associated with a motorcycle crash.
The accident took place in the early evening when a truck struck a motorcycle. According to police, the accident might have been the result of road rage. After striking the motorcyclist, the truck driver fled the scene. Police state the investigation continues. The motorcycle rider was taken to the hospital where he is in stable condition.
These types of accidents pose a serious risk. A motorcyclist, when struck, faces a real risk of injuries that require long-term care and permanent disability. Victims may struggle with years of physical and emotional rehabilitation that can be exacerbated by financial difficulties. Fortunately, legal action can play an important role in a full, robust recovery.
An accident victim injured by a distracted driver, speeding driver, or an otherwise negligent driver can seek to obtain compensation from him. To succeed, the victim must prove the other driver was negligent, that negligence caused the accident, and the accident caused the victim's injuries.
Once these elements have been proven, the victim can obtain compensation. These awards can be used to cover medical expenses, pain and suffering, and lost wages. Then, the victim can get the quality care he needs and deserves to obtain a full recovery without facing financial ruin. Additionally, these lawsuits punish errant drivers for their wrongdoing and deter future motorists from driving negligently.
