TN city sees rash of pedestrian accidents, one by drunk driver

Tennessee and Knoxville in particular, is supposed to be pedestrian friendly. Unfortunately, though, pedestrians are often hit by motorists, leaving them wounded. All too often these victims die from their injuries. Though some try to blame pedestrians for being unaware of fast moving traffic, motorists are often the ones who are inattentive and unaware of pedestrians.

One Tennessee city has seen its fair share of pedestrian accidents lately, and at least one has been caused by a drunk driver. The six accidents caused four deaths, and occurred anywhere from the shoulder of the highway to the middle of the road. Some pedestrians were hit by cars while one was hit by a semi-truck. These accidents not only leave their victims with serious injuries, but a resulting death may leave the victim's surviving family destroyed.

Recovering from a car accident can be quite difficult for a victim and his or her family. A surviving victim may become immobilized, making everyday tasks impossible and denying the victim the activities he or she enjoys. Physical pain, too, can become overwhelming. Additionally, a victim often has to incur medical expenses to give him or herself a chance at reaching a full, healthy recovery. Even surviving families may face losses beyond the heartbreaking death of their loved one, which might include funeral costs, medical expenses and lost wages.

When a driver strikes and injures a pedestrian, the victim should consider his or her legal rights. One right that often arises in these situations is the right to file a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit. A jury will often award compensation to victim or their families if the defendant's negligence can be shown to have caused the victim's injuries or death. If an intoxicated driver caused the accident, then the case will likely succeed.

A drunk driving accident, whether it involves a pedestrian or another vehicle, can cause serious physical, emotional and financial damage. Those who find themselves facing these losses should do everything they can to obtain what they deserve. Speaking with a legal professional may be the first step toward reaching that recovery.
