A recent motorcycle crash left a young Tennessean dead. According to reports, the 22-year-old was riding on a dirt bike when a 16-year old rider, also on a dirt bike, crossed the center line and struck him head on. Neither rider was wearing a helmet. The 16-year-oldwas airlifted to the hospital and he is now awaiting criminal charges. Authorities say they will perform tests to determine if intoxication played a role in the wreck.
A fatal accident like this one can send shockwaves through a family and the community. Though the community may be saddened by the loss, the victim's family must cope with the realities of its new day-to-day life. Medical expenses, funeral costs, lost wages, and the emotional rift caused by the loss of a loved one can take its toll. A surviving family may find it difficult to cope with their losses, and they may not know how to move forward.
Though it hurts to know that a loved one can never be brought back, there are steps that may allow a family to find some closure. One of those steps is to take legal action against the individual responsible for the crash. By filing a legal claim, a family ensures that their lost loved one's voice will be heard. If a claim, based on loss caused by the negligence of another, succeeds, then compensation may be awarded. However, the effects of a successful case can reach farther than that.
Winning a lawsuit can bring a surviving family a sense of justice and closure. Hopefully this will allow them to move forward in life, remembering the great moments they had with lost loved ones. Though it is unclear if the victim's family in the case above will take legal action, those who are similarly situated may want to consider their rights.
