Knoxville man lucky to avoid serious injuries after accident

Driving requires a motorist's full attention at all times. Even taking one's eyes off the road for a fraction of a second can result in serious consequences. The driver's car may veer into oncoming traffic, be unable to stop when the vehicles in front of it brake or speed through a stop sign or red light. This means that one split second of distraction can cause a devastating car accident that leaves individuals with serious injuries.

A Knoxville man is lucky to have escaped with little harm after such an accident on the Alcoa Highway. According to authorities, a 19-year-old woman, who was driving a Pontiac Grand Am in the left lane, took her eyes off the road to change the radio station. When she did, her driver's side tires went off the road. The woman overcorrected, causing her vehicle to swerve into the path of a van in the right lane.

The collision caused the Grand Am to turn upside down and the van to wind up on its side. The Knoxville man, who was driving the van, was taken to the hospital via ambulance, was treated at the hospital and was then released. The woman was cited for her failure to drive with due care.

Though the victim in this incident was lucky to escape serious harm, other Tennesseans are not so lucky. Others may be left with broken bones, head and neck injuries or permanent disability. Medical expenses, lost wages and physical and emotional pain and suffering can take quite a toll, leaving these individuals stressed and depressed. Fortunately, though, they may be able to find relief through the legal system.

By filing a personal injury lawsuit, victims of a car accident can seek compensation from the negligent driver who harmed them. Though the process may not be easy, it could provide much needed relief to those who would be otherwise healthy if it were not for an individual's split second of inattentiveness.
