Tire maintenance key for preventing truck accidents

There are many components to a semi-truck. Each and every one of them plays an important role in not only efficiency and accessibility, but also safety. Therefore, every part of a truck should be maintained to the highest standard to ensure that all motorists on the roads of Tennessee are protected from preventable harm. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration agrees and has issued regulations with regard to truck maintenance.

One of the most important aspects of a semi-truck with regard to safety is the vehicle's tires. If improperly maintained and repaired, tires can cause a significant threat to truckers and other motorists. A blowout may send rubber flying at nearby vehicles, causing them to swerve dangerously, or it may cause a truck to lose control. Therefore, the FMCSA's regulations require truckers to inspect every tire on their vehicle at the beginning of their trip and every time the truck is parked.

The regulations also spell out how the inspections should be utilized. If a tire is examined and determined by the trucker to be flat, leaking, or improperly inflated, then the trucker should repair or replace the deficiency. Likewise, if a tire is found to be overheated, then that tire should be immediately removed and the truck should not be driven until the cause of the overheating is corrected.

Those who are injured in a truck accident caused by an improperly maintained vehicle may have a cause of action. With legal assistance, these victims might be able to obtain maintenance records and witness testimony to support their claim, hopefully resulting in the recovery of compensation for losses, such as medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering.
