Maryville sees 2 arrests within days for heroin, meth

The new year is barely two weeks underway, and Maryville has already seen at least two arrests involving heroin and methamphetamine.

On Thursday, Jan. 10, the Blount County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) arrested a 32-year-old Maryville man for multiple felonies. The arrest followed a raid on a home on Payne Hollow Road by the BCSO and other law enforcement agencies, including the Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force. That task force includes BCSO deputies as well as Marysville and Alcoa police officers.

Officers reportedly seized heroin and marijuana, a dozen guns, ballistic vests, stolen property, a Mercedes Benz and about $8,000 in cash. They also found a baby in the home, who was turned over to the Department of Children's Services (DCS). The charges against the man, who is at Blount County Correctional Facility, include possession of a controlled substance for resale as well as possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony.

Just days earlier, the BCSO and Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force arrested another Maryville man for being in possession of meth and heroin less than 1,000 feet from a child care facility.

The law enforcement officers were called to a Maryville motel on Jan. 5 to investigate possible illegal drug activity. They allegedly found heroin and crystal meth in the room of a 45-year-old motel guest. They arrested him for possession and intent to sell the drugs in a drug-free zone. The motel is within 1,000 feet of a child care facility.

The penalties for drug-related crimes can be severe -- particularly when they involve Schedule I drugs, intent to sell and other factors, such as children being nearby. Whatever drug-related charge you or a loved one is facing, it's wise to seek experienced legal guidance as you proceed through the justice system.
